Sacred Spaces: Preparing Your Environment for Yoni Rituals

Creating a Nourishing Environment

Every ritual begins with intention, but the environment that holds it shapes how deeply we can soften and receive. Preparing your space for a yoni ritual is not about perfection. It is about creating a feeling. A sense of warmth, presence, and safety that allows your body to relax and your heart to open.

Begin by choosing a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. Light a candle to bring in warmth and illumination (although if you are planning to yoni steam, you will feel the warmth regardless!) If you have salt lamps, this ambient lighting will help you soften into your feminine essence. Soft music can help your body unwind and your mind drift into calm.

If you are yoni steaming, you will also smell the gorgeous aromas of the herbs as they steep into the steam that are there for you to connect with, taking a moment to be grateful for Mother Earth and her intelligent healing medicines. If you are taking part in womb massage, de-armouring, yoni egg work or any other modality that doesn't use the sense of smell - Diffuse essential oils or anoint yourself with a drop of your favourite blend to awaken the senses. Keep your journal nearby to capture any thoughts or emotions that arise before or after your ritual.

These simple touches turn an ordinary space into one that feels sacred. They remind your body that it is time to rest, to breathe, and to reconnect.

The Power of Intention: Moving from Routine to Ritual

What makes a moment sacred is not what we do, but how we do it. Moving from concentration to devotion. Intention transforms a routine into a ritual. Before beginning, pause and take a few gentle breaths. Ask yourself, “What do I wish to call in or release today?”

Perhaps you are inviting softness, grounding, healing, or clarity. Speak it quietly to yourself or write it in your journal. As you prepare your herbs, set your stool, or wrap yourself in a shawl, hold that intention in your heart. Every movement becomes part of the ceremony.

This practice of intention allows you to anchor into your body, reminding you that you are both the giver and receiver of your own care.

Ideas for Solo or Circle Settings

A sacred space can be deeply personal or beautifully shared. When you create it alone, it becomes a sanctuary of stillness. You may choose soft lighting, gentle music, and time for reflection or meditation. Let your breath guide you as you connect inward.

In a circle setting, the energy shifts. The sacred space becomes a container for sisterhood.

Each woman brings her own light, her own story, and her own energy. Candles in the centre, shared herbs, and collective intention weaving through the air create a powerful field of connection.

Whether alone or surrounded by sisters, the sacred space invites presence. It reminds us that we are part of something larger, that we belong to a lineage of women who have always created ritual through care, connection, and community.

Your sacred space is an extension of your energy. It holds your intentions, your breath, and your healing. With each candle lit and each breath taken, you create a bridge between body and spirit.

Sacred tools become even more powerful when shared. In our next blog, we explore how to bring these practices into circles and sisterhood.

Yoni steaming does have possible side effects for some women and there are some women who shouldn't steam, particularly if they are on certain medications. Do not steam at home if you're unsure of the possible risks and are on birth control, medications or even drink alcohol regularly! There are certain herbs that conflict with these substances in your body, and we want to support you—not make things worse. Those who should not steam include: Pregnant women (the clearing-out effect can sometimes lead to miscarriage in early pregnancy) Menstruating women (can cause heavier flow and dehydration) Women with their tubes tied (cleansing of your reproductive system and scar tissue can make you fertile again) Women with infections characterised by a 'burning itch' (steaming can cause heating effects if this is the case) Women who require a practitioner and should not steam at home: Women in their first ever yoni steaming session Women whose menstrual cycles last less than 27 days Women who experience hot flashes or night sweats Women with an IUD (either marina or copper) Young women (13 years or younger) Women prone to yeast infections or who have herpes Women on any form of birth control Women who are on any form of medication (some herbs react with meds, so to make sure we compose the right herb pack for you, let your practitioner know what you use and why) Women who drink within 24 hrs of steaming (before and after) Women who can steam from home: If none of the above affects you, then steaming is generally safe. We do recommend you book a mini consultation before steaming at home to ensure you are educated in best practice and get the most benefit out of your steam.

Yoni steaming is only one portion of the holistic health journey. It can be incredibly powerful in helping you feel connected to your divine feminine, including your innermost beautiful power—your bodily gift that brings life, love and pleasure to yourself and to the world! We live in a day and age where we have lost touch with this amazing part of ourselves and it's time for us to embrace it. With many of the physical benefits that help bring the body back to balance, it truly is such an important part of our life that we can now claim back and support. We all know how important our diets, exercise and meditation are for our mental and physical health. This is just another way to show yourself some love and improve different parts of womanhood in all aspects of hormonal reproductive health. We recommend this practice is used in addition to all the healthy habits you are already working on. This can allow the steam to assist you ten-fold, as it makes it easier for it to soak into your body, improve your blood circulation and have less to fight with.

Please note: a consultation is required before performing any steaming on your own. How I teach my clients to do this from home: Go to the kitchen and see if you can find a bowl or a pot that is made of either ceramic or glass. Take that with you. Next, go to the fridge and look for any bought bottles of filtered water or spring water (even better). Grab enough for about two cups. If you have the above, this means you CAN STEAM FROM HOME! Then, I want you to take that glass or ceramic bowl/pot into the bathroom with you and plonk it sitting in the toilet (so if you dropped something it would fall in the pot). Find at least one large towel and one warm but thin blanket. Bring in any lighting, candles, crystals, a book, speakers for music or meditation and create a comfortable and sacred space for your very first practice. Personalise it around you! Do what I do and envision yourself as a goddess receiving ancient wisdom through this practice. Put away the devices, such as phones, TVs and laptops, and limit any other distractions, such as work and kids, and really allow this to be a personal experience. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH—this practice works best when you tune into the sensations and sensitivities of your body. Boil the filtered/spring water and wrap the towels around the toilet seat so it's comfy for you to be seated without feeling too cold, and so you feel comfortable sitting there for a long period of time. Take off your clothes and wrap that beautiful blanket around you. Once the kettle is boiled, take it and pour it in the bowl that's seated inside of the toilet bowl. You actually don't need to steam with herbs to feel the benefits of yoni steaming, it does help and target specific ailments, imbalances, spiritual goals and such, but you still benefit in most ways with pure good-quality water in steaming. I even prefer this than you buying and using the wrong herbs. If you have a herb blend, this is where you add the herbs. If you're not purchasing them from us, please ensure they are organic, with no more than eight herbs in the blend altogether—it's a matter of PH! Let it steep for a minute or so, then sit on the toilet and keep the blanket wrapped around you, with the steam going into your lady (or man) bits. If you find it's too hot (you'll know straight away!) just stand back up and sit back down in ten-second increments. There's no right or wrong temperature here, this is a mild steam because you're not using a heating element to sustain the heat (traditional steam). Just ensure you don't burn but keep a bit of warmth that's comfortable. AND THAT'S IT—you're steaming! Remember, for your first-time steaming, you must only go for a maximum of 10-15 minutes.

Before your session starts, you can expect a one-on-one conversation with me where we discuss your body, your current mental state, what to expect and what we will be doing to work around your body for maximum benefit! From there, you will get changed into one of our 100% organic cotton gowns that we have specifically made for steaming where you will feel comfortable and covered before starting the session. The beautiful room is to be kept as a space of relaxation and self-love, to make you feel like the queen you are during your steam. Picture Himalayan salt lamps, beautiful crystals, oil diffusers with essential oils—you know, all the good stuff! You will be seated on a chair that allows for steaming where your gown covers and allows the steam to flow inside. We can play healing sound frequencies, rainforest sounds, or even a guided meditation if that's what you feel for the day. You will generally spend between 10-30 minutes, depending on the type of steam your body needs and can handle (which we will determine in our initial consultation). Herbs infused in the steaming bowl are customised around you, your body and to support you both physically and mentally, some would even say this as a spiritual practice—it's THAT powerful! You will be tended to with a selection of filtered water or organic herbal teas to keep your hydration levels up during the steam. At the end of the practice, we will give you some lifestyle advice to maximise the steam benefits over the next one to three days, which helps to support your body and bring you into greater balance (who wouldn't love that?!).
