Creating Your Sacred Seat:

The Role of the Yoni Steaming Stool

The Seat That Holds You

Your yoni steaming stool is more than a piece of furniture. It is a sacred seat that holds your body, your breath and your intention. For centuries, women sat in quiet spaces over warmth and herbs, inviting healing, softness and connection into the womb space. Today, the stool continues this lineage. It supports the body in a way that allows you to relax deeply and receive the full benefits of your steam.

A Little History of the Steaming Seat

In ancient cultures, women would sit on carved wooden stools, clay seats or natural openings in the earth to allow herbal steam to rise. The stool symbolised grounding and belonging. It was a space created for rest and renewal. The seat reminded women that healing was not rushed. It happened slowly, with presence and support.

Creating Your Sacred Seat

Your steaming stool does not need to be complicated. What matters is comfort, safety and intention. Place your stool in a quiet corner. Add a soft cloth or shawl across your legs for warmth. Light a candle. Allow your stool to become a place where you feel safe to drop into your body.

Your stool becomes a reminder to pause. To soften. To give something back to yourself.

The Energetic Meaning

There is something powerful about sitting on a dedicated seat. It signals to the body that it is time to receive. Your stool becomes an anchor for ritual. With each steam, it absorbs your intention, your breath and your healing. Over time, this seat carries your energy and becomes part of your sacred practice.

Practical Tips

Choose a stool height that keeps your spine long and your hips relaxed. Ensure your pot sits safely beneath you with space for steam to rise. Always test the steam temperature with your hand first. Comfort and safety are the foundation of every ritual.

Yoni steaming does have possible side effects for some women and there are some women who shouldn't steam, particularly if they are on certain medications. Do not steam at home if you're unsure of the possible risks and are on birth control, medications or even drink alcohol regularly! There are certain herbs that conflict with these substances in your body, and we want to support you—not make things worse. Those who should not steam include: Pregnant women (the clearing-out effect can sometimes lead to miscarriage in early pregnancy) Menstruating women (can cause heavier flow and dehydration) Women with their tubes tied (cleansing of your reproductive system and scar tissue can make you fertile again) Women with infections characterised by a 'burning itch' (steaming can cause heating effects if this is the case) Women who require a practitioner and should not steam at home: Women in their first ever yoni steaming session Women whose menstrual cycles last less than 27 days Women who experience hot flashes or night sweats Women with an IUD (either marina or copper) Young women (13 years or younger) Women prone to yeast infections or who have herpes Women on any form of birth control Women who are on any form of medication (some herbs react with meds, so to make sure we compose the right herb pack for you, let your practitioner know what you use and why) Women who drink within 24 hrs of steaming (before and after) Women who can steam from home: If none of the above affects you, then steaming is generally safe. We do recommend you book a mini consultation before steaming at home to ensure you are educated in best practice and get the most benefit out of your steam.

Yoni steaming is only one portion of the holistic health journey. It can be incredibly powerful in helping you feel connected to your divine feminine, including your innermost beautiful power—your bodily gift that brings life, love and pleasure to yourself and to the world! We live in a day and age where we have lost touch with this amazing part of ourselves and it's time for us to embrace it. With many of the physical benefits that help bring the body back to balance, it truly is such an important part of our life that we can now claim back and support. We all know how important our diets, exercise and meditation are for our mental and physical health. This is just another way to show yourself some love and improve different parts of womanhood in all aspects of hormonal reproductive health. We recommend this practice is used in addition to all the healthy habits you are already working on. This can allow the steam to assist you ten-fold, as it makes it easier for it to soak into your body, improve your blood circulation and have less to fight with.

Please note: a consultation is required before performing any steaming on your own. How I teach my clients to do this from home: Go to the kitchen and see if you can find a bowl or a pot that is made of either ceramic or glass. Take that with you. Next, go to the fridge and look for any bought bottles of filtered water or spring water (even better). Grab enough for about two cups. If you have the above, this means you CAN STEAM FROM HOME! Then, I want you to take that glass or ceramic bowl/pot into the bathroom with you and plonk it sitting in the toilet (so if you dropped something it would fall in the pot). Find at least one large towel and one warm but thin blanket. Bring in any lighting, candles, crystals, a book, speakers for music or meditation and create a comfortable and sacred space for your very first practice. Personalise it around you! Do what I do and envision yourself as a goddess receiving ancient wisdom through this practice. Put away the devices, such as phones, TVs and laptops, and limit any other distractions, such as work and kids, and really allow this to be a personal experience. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH—this practice works best when you tune into the sensations and sensitivities of your body. Boil the filtered/spring water and wrap the towels around the toilet seat so it's comfy for you to be seated without feeling too cold, and so you feel comfortable sitting there for a long period of time. Take off your clothes and wrap that beautiful blanket around you. Once the kettle is boiled, take it and pour it in the bowl that's seated inside of the toilet bowl. You actually don't need to steam with herbs to feel the benefits of yoni steaming, it does help and target specific ailments, imbalances, spiritual goals and such, but you still benefit in most ways with pure good-quality water in steaming. I even prefer this than you buying and using the wrong herbs. If you have a herb blend, this is where you add the herbs. If you're not purchasing them from us, please ensure they are organic, with no more than eight herbs in the blend altogether—it's a matter of PH! Let it steep for a minute or so, then sit on the toilet and keep the blanket wrapped around you, with the steam going into your lady (or man) bits. If you find it's too hot (you'll know straight away!) just stand back up and sit back down in ten-second increments. There's no right or wrong temperature here, this is a mild steam because you're not using a heating element to sustain the heat (traditional steam). Just ensure you don't burn but keep a bit of warmth that's comfortable. AND THAT'S IT—you're steaming! Remember, for your first-time steaming, you must only go for a maximum of 10-15 minutes.
